Cotton mouth

Description: I took this pic because of the fact that everyone says a WC cotton is very aggressive. This guy was caught last night. I normally don't do this.

Nice snake, but what happened to responsible handeling practices. Hope we don't read about "Man bitten by his pet cottonmouth" that does wonders for the rest of us. Have a good one and think about what your doing.

let me tell you something buddy. i don't care how non-aggresive you think a snake is the fact is all snakes bite. i mean i have been bit by my lil ball python who is very docil. but if a snake gets startled or scared or feels threatend it will bite. i think you need to think before you act. or your gonna end up in the hospitial

I am not going to go and judge this guy because he's free handling a hot. I've seen Steve Irwin free handle hots, so who knows, maybe he too knows what he is doing. But please, of you don't truly understand how a snake acts and you haven't monitored it before, DON'T DO THIS. Cause if you get bit it's just gonna hurt our hobbyh even more. Rating: 3/5

This is why I HATE shows like the Croc hunter! "knowing what you are doing" has nothing to do with not getting bitten! Bill Haast probably has more experience handling hots than anyone in this hemisphere and he's been bitten over a hundred times. No one here can claim to be able to to predict the actions of a wild animal. We've crossed the line from fearing these animals to losing the healthy respect they deserve. Frankly, I don't give a rats ass if some idiot seriously injures his or herself doing something like this but those who would shut this hobby down don't need US giving THEM the ammo to do it!!!!!!! Yes, you have balls. No you don't have any sense. What were you trying to prove? That you got lucky?

I'm originally from Homestead Florida and it was there that I developed a love of Herps. Here in Kansas I have plenty of herps tokeep me busy but I miss the wild herps that surrounded me throught my childhood

you should have known that you were going to get a lota crap about this pic. You're not impressing anyone and your setting a very bad example for anyone who dosn't already have enough sense not to do this, you should be ashamed of yourself. a note to you youngsters don't do this please, and you please stop doing this it's dangerous . I've been in the hobby for a few years. On the moment I have hots; Naja kaouthia, Crotalus v. viridis, T. albolabris, T. macrops, A. lubricus, A. squamiger, Vipera latasti gaditana. I also keep corn snakes, a few tarantulas and scorpions.

Even though the snake might look very calm, you have no idea when it might suddenly swing it's head and bite you. You might somehow stagger, and if the snake gets scared, it will bite you. Hope you have seen photos about what happens when venomous snakes bite people. I don't think you wanna risk for example your hand for the rest of your life, just because you had to be a macho once. And don't say you´re not being a macho, you're just proving cottonmouths are not that aggressive. If you´re not being a macho, why didn't you handle the snake with a hook? Free-handling venomous snakes is STUPID, you will get hurt if you keep doing that, and when you get hurt, you will hurt the hobby.

I've kept herps for almost 13 years and still dont have a jampea dwarf retic, or an albino ball grr...

WOW zane man, ur crazy! Because i dont know you very well i am not going to judge you. But from what i have heard and read from you i think you know what your doing and maybe theres a good reason behind this as to why your doing this? You couldve at least added DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME man. To everyone else, IF this guy were to get bitten it would be his own fault n he would be the one whos paying for the antivenom and medical bills NOT you, so why are you posting negative comments and judging before you even know what the reason for him to be doing this is?

Thanks,
Ben

well benny, I have a feeling that you havent been around much venomous reptiles considering you live in canada! this is very stupid what this person is doing because this snake is very deadly! you need to go on midwesttongs.com and look at some snake bite pictures!! And we make negitive comments because it is people like this that are getting our hobbie band in some states!!

If at first you dont suceed then Sky diving is not for you.

Oddly enough you wonderful people can post to this yet seem to have failed to read the fourm of this topic. However that's ok, I sometimes like to hear myself talk or like to see myself seen. I am not sorry I did this, because it proved my intended reasoning. As for all the BSing, if I were truely a freehandler, do you honestly think all these posts would deter me from doing it? I mean honestly... Oh, one more thing, I did mention it was a fresh catch, why even think it was a venomoid?
Abit flaky.. Bah, either way, can't prove a point of something without pissing someone off.. Gotta' love it.
Oh Ben, thanks for the back up but being I freehandled, no matter for what intention, surely shows I know nothing; but again, Thanks.

I have loved herps ever since I was little. I was always told girls won't find husbands if they like such things. So when I went to college, my love affair was rekindled. I have a Cali King Snake, Corn snake and a Beardie (besides the cats &am

I don't think this picture "proves" anything, other than the irresponsibility some people toward wildlife. I have never heard that wild cottonmouths are aggressive. Anything I have seen said they will readily strike after provocation--who wouldn't. There are some snakes that will strike more readily and others who won't. I just wonder if there would be a photo here if the snake was "aggressive", and if there was one, what would it show: a bite mark or a body bag? Quite the gamble for a useless photo.

But I am sure the Humane Society will be happy to use your ignorance to draw the same unfounded conclusions about people who own snakes as you did about this one snake.

Bottom line: Handling wildlife (especially venomous snakes) should NEVER be glorified. As well as, n=1 is NOT significant enough to "Prove" anything or draw conclusions.!
